Students Build An Electric Car

Two Year 7 Newts students were chosen to represent the school at a prestigious STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths) event at Arthur Terry School in Sutton Coldfield.

The students were tasked with building a Greenpower Goblin electric car from scratch. It is part of a programme sponsored by Siemens that gives students from across the country the opportunity to learn technical skills, problem solving and teamwork.

The students acquitted themselves very well, getting involved in all parts of the building process and  working with students from other mainstream schools. They also gained an AQA entry level certificate in mechanics as recognition for their efforts. This is an outstanding achievement for year 7 students.

The car is now back at Northern House School and will form part of the Northern House Racing Team, an after school club that will also involve the building of a larger, more powerful electric car designed to be taken on race tracks.
